(PRWEB) January 21, 2006

Laboratory trials held in a leading research institute, Retroscreen Virology Ltd, associated with the University of London found Sambucol® to be at least 99% effective against the Avian Flu virus H5N1. Sambucol® was effective at

significantly neutralising the infectivity of the virus in cell cultures. These results will also be presented during the International Conference on Bird Flu: “The First Pandemic of the 21st Century. A Central Role for Antivirals”, to be held at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital on January 19th-20th 2006.

Dr. Madeleine Mumcuoglu, is looking into further investigations into the activity of Sambucol® against Avian Flu on a wider scale.

In an earlier study (1995) Sambucol® was found to be effective against a wide range of influenza strains. Laboratory studies conducted at the Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem demonstrated the activity

of Sambucol® against human, swine, and avian influenza strains. Sambucol®’s efficacy was also demonstrated in two double blind, placebo controlled clinical studies. Sambucol® was shown to cut the duration and

severity of the common flu by up to half.

Notes to editors;

Sambucol® is based on an active substance isolated from the black elderberry.

Manufactured by Razei Bar Industries Israel, Sambucol® is available in 17 countries and in the UK is sold in Tesco, leading chemists, independent health food stores and wholesalers from £8.49.

Laredo, TX and Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 26, 2009

The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) and the Laredo Independent School District (LISD) are installing a “first-in-the nation,” Internet-based system for early identification of possible novel Influenza H1N1 virus infection of students, teachers and staff. The virus is commonly known as the “swine flu.”

The system, known as Argus1, also provides decision support for school nurses and other providers in caring for sick students; instant alerts such as vaccine recommendations, and continuous reporting and tracking of outbreaks to the CLHD and school authorities.

“In addition to Influenza A H1N1, the system also provides point-of-contact surveillance for other forms of influenza as well as the potential to track other public health infectious diseases and chemical agents that the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security has identified as possible agents in a biological or chemical terrorist attack,” said Robert Burns, Director of Information Technology for Argus One Systems, Inc.

Argus1 was introduced in Laredo as part of a test site from 2003 to 2006. Its re-deployment for the 2009-10 school year is based on extensive testing and refinement of the system, with particular attention to the new Influenza A H1N1 virus. Argus1 also can be used by physician offices, emergency medical responders and hospital emergency departments, Burns noted.

Patricia Keck, Director of LISD Health Services, stated:

“Argus 1 will be an important part of our ‘Fight the Flu’ program. By quickly receiving reports from school nurses, LISD Health Services Department in conjunction with the City of Laredo is able to track illness patterns. If an illness pattern develops at an LISD school, we will provide the school with intensified flu prevention recommendations. Argus1 is a valuable weapon in fighting flu outbreaks.”

“In addition to assisting nurses caring for sick students, Argus1 provides a distinctive reporting function to the CLHD, which has played a key role in the design and development of the system during the past six years,” said Vincent Friedewald, MD, Medical Director of Argus One Systems.

“This surveillance system is an important adjunct to track and monitor disease from the onset at the provider level and to quickly report to the CLHD for a rapid response intervention to contain disease,” said Hector Gonzalez, MD, MPH, Director of the city’s Health Dept.

“The system is secured and uses both landline and wireless Internet-connected computers,” explained Friedewald, a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center – Houston.

Argus1 assesses signs, symptoms, test results

“An important part of the program involves assessment of patients’ signs, symptoms and test results, which are instantly transformed into a comprehensive list of possible disease causes and detailed information about each of the diseases,” he added.

Additionally, when a person’s symptoms match any of nine categories of public health syndromes, including influenza-like illnesses, the exact time and location is reported to both the CLHD and to the central office of the School District, he said. All reported cases are instantly displayed on a map of the City of Laredo so that potential cases are immediately tracked to help officials decide how to prevent its spread throughout the schools and the community at large.

“As the school year begins, we are entering a potentially very dangerous period with a new influenza virus that particularly affects young persons,” emphasized Friedewald, who is an Associate Editor for The American Journal of Cardiology, as well as a research professor in the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame

“Our ability to build on our existing relationship with the LISD and the CLHD should afford the children, as well as the entire community of Laredo, a proven and unsurpassed level of added protection” he said.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 7, 2008

Replikins, Ltd. has found that the Replikin Count™ of the H1N1 strain of influenza virus has recently increased to 7.6 (plus/minus 1.4), its highest level since the 1918 H1N1 pandemic (p value less than 0.001). A rising Replikin Count of a particular influenza strain, indicating rapid replication of the virus, is an early warning which has been followed consistently by an outbreak of the specific strain. The current increase appears to be specific to H1N1; there was a concurrent 80% decline in the Replikin Count of H3N2, for instance.

The current H1N1 appears to be rapidly replicating simultaneously in the U.S. and Austria. It may succeed H5N1 as the leading candidate for the next expected overdue pandemic. However, the same virus replikin structures detected by FluForecast® software in all three previous pandemics, namely 1918 H1N1, 1957 H2N2, and 1968 H3N2, as well as in H5N1, have not yet been detected in the currently evolving H1N1.

There is evidence that many factors, including virus structure, host receptivity, and the environment, together with infectivity and rapid replication, need to converge for a pandemic to occur. For H5N1, the high human mortality rate, which peaked at over 80% in 2006-07 in Indonesia, as well as current low infectivity, both appear to limit H5N1′s ability to produce a pandemic. Furthermore, the H5N1 rapid replication cycle which began in 1996 now appears to be over. The H5N1 virus produced less than 300 World Health Organization confirmed deaths over the past 10 years.

On the other hand, H1N1, with an estimated human mortality rate of only 2.5 to 10%, but with much higher infectivity, produced an estimated 50 million deaths in the 1918 pandemic. A number of countermeasures exist today which did not exist in 1918, however. Among these is Replikins’ ability to manufacture synthetic vaccines based on current sequences, with a seven day production turnaround.

BuyCheapTamiflu.com (http://www.buycheaptamiflu.com) has secured a small amount of the highly sought after prescription medication and is shipping orders in the order they are received.

Tamiflu has been shown to reduce the effects of the bird flu virus if taken within 48 hrs of flu symptoms.

About Tamiflu:

TAMIFLU (TAM-ih-flew) is a medicine to treat flu (infection caused by influenza virus). It belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading inside your body. TAMIFLU treats flu at its source by attacking the virus that causes the flu, rather than simply masking symptoms. Each TAMIFLU capsule (grey/light yellow) contains 75 mg of active drug and should be taken by mouth.

Pharmacies around the world are in very short supply of Tamiflu due to the threat of Avian (Bird) Flu virus and other influenza outbreaks all over the world. If you need a supply of Tamiflu, now is the last chance to get it for a while as the U.S. Government has taken possession of the majority of Tamiflu from all of the drug wholesalers throughout the country.

BuyCheapTamiflu.com has just secured a small supply of Tamiflu from Canada. Orders will be shipped in the order they are received and will begin to ship shortly. Our supplies of Tamiflu are very limited and will only be shipped to US customers.

Tamiflu 75mg is available to purchase online without the need for a prior prescription, our doctors will review your online medical questionnaire and issue you a prescription if you qualify. Tamiflu is available in quantities of 10 or 20 capsules.

Reeves College campuses are prepared for the H1N1 flu and are staying up to date on all developments, says a school representative.

“We post the regional health department advice bulletins, have placed hand sanitizers strategically throughout the campuses, and discuss H1N1 updates regularly at our director meetings,” says Bev Silito, Regional Director for Reeves College.

The H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu, is transmitted the same way as the seasonal flu. Students can reduce the spread of germs by washing hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, covering the mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing, avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth, and using hand sanitizers.

Communication with health services agencies and students is also key.

“Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health and Wellness have established a post-secondary pandemic liaison group,” says Silito. “Communication is being coordinated between that group, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology and private career colleges.”

Alberta Health Services recommends that those who are experiencing flu symptoms stay home from school and work and limit contact with others to prevent others from catching the flu.

Students are advised to connect with a “study buddy” in their classes, who can help pass on homework and lecture notes in the event of an illness.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 11, 2007

Replikins, Ltd. today announced its latest findings regarding the virus replikin count in human H5N1 influenza virus. The company’s software-driven analysis has found that the prevalence of these sequences has remained high in Indonesia; in addition, higher counts now have been found in China. These statistics reflect an “upregulation” of this gene which has been linked to the lethality of influenza viruses. When factored in with previous findings, this suggests that the H5N1 outbreak in Indonesia is not over and that the next country to show an increase in human cases and mortality rate will be China.

This is the second of a series of reports on the use of a new methodology to isolate ‘in silico’ and to track and control specific replikin gene activity in several disease states.

A software method, called FluForecast®, has been designed to measure Replikins(TM), a class of proteins containing high concentrations of amino acids lysine and histidine, that have been determined to be related to rapid replication and virulence. Rather than being evenly distributed in the virus genome, replikins have been found to be concentrated in specific genomic areas. The area of each genome with the highest concentration of continuous replikin peptides has been isolated in silico and named a Replikin Peak Gene (RPG). Using proprietary computer algorithms constructed to identify, count, and track historically this class of proteins, replikins have now been analyzed in 130,488 protein and genome sequences. These include all the accession numbers for common strains of influenza and other lethal virus isolations published between 1917 and 2007 in the PubMed repository. The method is being applied to the diagnostic and therapeutic control of virus and bacterial diseases.

When the replikin count of the SARS virus dropped in 2003, it signalled correctly that the SARS outbreak shortly would be over. Similarly for each of the influenza pandemics and epidemics of the last century, for which the replikin count had been elevated before and during those outbreaks, decrease in the strain-specific replikin count which was causing the outbreak gave advance notice that the outbreak was over. For H5N1 influenza, each of the onsets and cessations of the outbreaks from 1997 to the present were correctly predicted by the replikin count. In 2006 a drop in the number of human H5N1 cases gave rise to optimism that the H5N1 human outbreak might be over; the replikin counts rose at that point, however, and the outbreak has continued. In addition, comparison of replikin counts for virus specimens in several countries showed that the highest counts were in Indonesia. In 2006 Replikins also announced its prediction that the percent mortality in humans due to this virus, rather than declining, would in fact increase, and that the first country in which this would occur would be Indonesia. In 2007, both of these predictions made in 2006 were shown to be correct.

The current persistence of the upregulation of the H5N1 replikin peak gene in Indonesia, and its additional increase in China, support continuing efforts to organize public health measures and to prepare appropriate anti-viral drugs and vaccines.

Detailed data from these studies are published in issued and pending patents. FluForecast® is a product and service of Replikins Ltd. and Replikins,LLC., 38 The Fenway, Boston MA 02215. See also http://www.replikins.com.

Zachary, LA (PRWEB) November 8, 2005

For the first time in memory, the president has asked congress for permission to use the military for quarantine against a Flu virus (Bird Flu).

If the government is that worried, should we be also?

Every year, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) stresses the importance of vaccination against the ‘flu, particularly for those members of the population defined as ‘at risk’ – this includes young children, the elderly and people whose immune system may be compromised due to various medical conditions like AIDS, asthma, diabetes, etc. Patients undergoing medical treatment which may lower immune functioning (e.g. chemotherapy patients) are also encouraged to receive a ‘flu vaccine.

According to the CDC, the Chiron Corporation, a major manufacturer of the ‘flu vaccine, will not be able to produce any vaccine for the 2004/2005 year, following the UK’s MHRA suspension of this company’s license to manufacture the ‘flu vaccine Fluvirin. This means that the US supply of trivalent inactivated vaccines (or ‘flu shots) will be reduced by almost 50% for the upcoming ‘flu season! For this reason and to help cope with demands, the CDC has recommended that ‘flu shots be administered only to populations defined as being at special risk.

What else can be done?

At http://www.nativeremedies.com/index.shtml?img=126&kbid=1972 There is a new product which works directly with the body’s immune system.

OralFlu Protect may be used prophylactically (preventatively) and will also assist with speedy recovery from symptoms associated with the flu, including secondary infections such as bronchitis and pharyngitis.

Used as a prophylactic (preventative) it prepares the body’s immune system to respond immediately after contamination by the flu virus instead of the usual ten day window period needed for the body to produce antibodies specific for the current strain. It also aids with speedy recovery if already afflicted and assists in overcoming symptoms associated with the flu. The other remedies making up the preparation are effective in treating secondary infection like bronchitis and pharyngitis (sore throat).

MELBOURNE, Australia (PRWEB) January 13, 2008

”This series of new preclinical tests gives us the comfort level to accelerate and the commercialization of our revolutionary Flubody approach for halting viral spread, utilizing our patent pending antibody formulations to provide immediate acting immunity,” said Dr Zeil Rosenberg, Anadis CEO. “Antibody and other protein-based solutions represent the next generation in the fight against influenza and Anadis, with its rapid development effort and extremely low manufacturing cost for harvesting antibodies, is well-positioned to benefit from this trend.” Influenza affects 15-60 million people in the United States each year, causing an estimated 44,000 deaths and 186,000 hospitalizations annually. Pandemic influenza has occurred three times over the last century. The 1918 outbreak alone killed more than 40 million people worldwide. Avian influenza (bird flu) is a lethal influenza strain that has created worldwide concern because its infection can be transferred among humans. The mortality rate among humans exceeds 50%.

Dr. Oren Fuerst, VP of Business Development of the company said: “Benefiting from our years of experience in the harvesting of polyclonal antibodies and other fractions of dairy derived immune milk (colostrum), we aim to be first to market with an effective and patented formulation for both the routine and avian flu markets. With our unique approach, we plan to become world leaders in the influenza market that today already exceeds $ 5 billion worldwide.”

Anadis Limited (ASX: ANX; OTC: ANDIY) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on antigen-primed, dairy-derived health products. Anadis’ proprietary, rapid manufacturing technology has enabled it to develop a product pipeline of polyclonal antibody-based solutions to a range of important infectious and immune-mediated diseases. The all-natural colostrum-derived platform, and its regulatory classification as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) when administered orally, allows for a significantly shorter time-frame from bench to market compared with typical biotechnology products. The platform also possesses dramatically lower manufacturing costs and higher scalability compared to typical antibody-based solutions. Anadis is addressing existing market opportunities sized in excess of US$ 30 billion. Leveraging a technology platform that has been carefully developed over a decade, the company expects to become the leading provider of proprietary polyclonal antibody-based solutions worldwide.

(PRWEB) March 9, 2005

A new downloadable report can instantly give people concerned about bird flu virus an alternative solution for avian influenza vaccine, which has yet to be developed or produced in most countries.

The report, “Beat the Bird Flu Virus” (from Truth Publishing, available at http://www.truthpublishing.com) offers readers a previously unreleased list of the Top 12 antiviral herbs and nutrients for beating avian influenza or H5N1 bird flu virus. The 37-page color report is available for download now and is free of charge.

“Beat the Bird Flu Virus” provides nutritional solutions using research from published studies by leading doctors and researchers from around the world. The report also cites specific researchers and their key comments about the Top 12 items listed, plus details about many other nutrients that were not listed. Some of the top antiviral foods and nutrients named in the list include elderberry extract, zinc, St. John’s Wort and Astragalus herbs.

“This report is based on solid, multi-sourced research and lists the top natural antiviral items for boosting immunity against any virus, including the bird flu virus,” says author Mike Adams. “This list is for anyone who wants to get proactive about strengthening their immunity against an infection that has so far generated limited response from governments, despite its effect on humans to date.”

Southfield, MI (PRWEB) December 9, 2009

Nearly a year after the first mention of swine influenza (H1N1), Summit Health, Inc., has released an update to its executive briefing, “What We Know and Don’t Know about Swine Flu – And What Employers Can Do.”

The revised paper reflects new information as of November 2009 and is available today from the nation’s largest provider of on-site flu shots and employee immunizations. It features tips to help businesses better understand the swine flu virus and what can be done to minimize a company’s risk. Other key topics include:

Where current outbreaks of the virus are being reported.
Employer strategies for educating employees, planning for a pandemic, providing flu shots, and employee telecommuting.
Recommendations for preventing unnecessary exposure.
Updated information on swine flu vaccines and their availability.

The Summit brief also provides guidance for dealing with employees who fear exposure and won’t report for work, and those who claim to have been infected at the workplace. Also addressed is the question of whether companies can make flu shots mandatory. Finally, the brief helps employers spot the differences between seasonal flu and the H1N1 virus.

“The truth is that no one knows why some people get sicker from the virus than others, nor if future cases are going to have milder or more severe illness,” said Richard Penington, president and CEO of Summit Health. “Nationally, there has been a recent, slight decline in visits to doctors for influenza-like-illness . . . yet flu-related hospitalizations and deaths continue to increase and are very high nationwide, compared to what is expected for this time of year.”
