Nutley, NJ (PRWEB) September 23, 2008

Roche announced today that ample supplies of its prescription antiviral medication Tamiflu® (oseltamivir phosphate) will be widely available throughout the U.S. this flu season. Tamiflu, cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an important second line of defense against flu, is indicated for the treatment and prevention of influenza in adults and children one year and older.

To help ensure the medication gets to the pharmacies and people who need it, Roche coordinates a rapid response system with distributors nationwide. Through the program, pharmacists can order additional Tamiflu through a toll-free number (1-800-526-0625) and have it delivered within 24 hours by a local distributor.

“We understand that pharmacists do their best to stock appropriate amounts of antiviral medications, such as Tamiflu, for use during flu season,” said Dominick Iacuzio, Ph.D, medical

director at Roche. “However, the incidence and severity of seasonal flu remains unpredictable

from year to year, and some pharmacies still may be faced with greater-than-expected demand during the season.”

Roche also created an early signaling system called FluSTAR® and advises pharmacies when flu may be spreading in their local area.

Antiviral medications, such as Tamiflu, are one of three steps (along with vaccination and good hygiene) outlined in the CDC’s “Take 3″ influenza initiative. Available in a capsule and liquid suspension form, Tamiflu is the only oral antiviral medication recommended by the CDC for influenza treatment and prevention during the 2008-2009 flu season. Unlike the vaccine, which is reformulated each year to work against three specific strains of the virus, Tamiflu is designed to be active against all clinically relevant influenza virus strains.

“Because Tamiflu prevents the influenza virus from spreading inside the body, it has to be given within the first 48 hours of flu symptoms in order to be effective,” said Iacuzio. “People need to be aware of typical flu symptoms, and call the doctor quickly as soon as symptoms arise, for proper diagnosis.”

While not a substitute for vaccination, prescription antiviral drugs are an important adjunct, offering a second line of defense in preventing and treating seasonal influenza.

Flu Treatment:

If a person does contract the virus, antiviral medications are available by prescription to treat the flu. According to the CDC, “for treatment, influenza antiviral drugs should be started within two days after becoming sick and taken for five days.” Tamiflu can reduce flu symptoms and shorten the time of sickness.

Flu Prevention:

Antiviral medications such as Tamiflu can also be given prophylactically to people who have been exposed to influenza to help contain the spread in certain settings, such as family members passing the virus to one another in a household. Preventive doses of Tamiflu following exposure to the flu can also be considered for controlling outbreaks in closed or semi-closed settings, such as nursing homes or dormitories. Clinical trials indicate that Tamiflu is up to 92 percent effective in preventing flu in adults – and 82 percent effective in preventing flu in children – when taken within 48 hours of exposure.

About Tamiflu:

Tamiflu, co-developed by Gilead Sciences, Inc., based in Foster City, CA, is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated influenza caused by viruses types A and B in patients one year and older who have had flu symptoms for no more than two days. Tamiflu is also indicated for the prevention of influenza in patients one year and older. Tamiflu is not a substitute for annual early vaccination as recommended by the CDC. Prescribers should consider available information on influenza drug susceptibility patterns and treatment effects when deciding whether to use Tamiflu.

In post-marketing experience, rare cases of anaphylaxis and serious skin reactions have been reported. There have been post-marketing reports (mostly from Japan) of self-injury and delirium with the use of Tamiflu in patients with influenza. The reports were primarily among children. The relative contribution of the drug to these events is not known. Patients with influenza should be closely monitored for signs of abnormal behavior throughout the treatment period.

The most frequently reported adverse events in clinical studies were nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Tamiflu is available for the treatment of influenza in more than 80 countries worldwide. Prescribing information for Tamiflu is available at http://www.rocheusa.com/products/tamiflu.

If taken within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms Tamiflu attacks the flu virus and stops it from spreading inside the body. Tamiflu is also used to reduce the chance of getting the flu in people age 13 and older who have a higher chance of getting the flu because they spend time with someone who has the flu. Tamiflu can also reduce the chance of getting the flu if there is a flu outbreak in the community.

Visit Tamiflu.com for more information on Tamiflu and for information on how to differentiate between the symptoms of the flu and a cold. The website also offers a desktop “Flu Tracker”.

Avian Flu, also known

as the Bird Flu virus that has led to the slaughter of millions of birds, mostly in Asia, but also in parts of Europe, has raised fears that it will mutate to spread easily from person to person, in a form of a pandemic.

Some governments and health organizations are stockpiling the anti-flu vaccine Tamiflu in a prepared response to any outbreaks. Tamiflu produced by Roche Holding is used for reducing the chance of getting the flu in people age 13 and older who have a higher chance fo getting the flu because they spend time with someone who has the flu. Tamiflu can also reduce the chance of getting the flu if there is a flu outbreak occurs in the community.

Phone calls and orders for the drug Tamiflu has increased dramatically over the past week, causing some shortages of the drug. One Discount Pharmacy named CanadaMedicineCompany.com (http://www.CanadaMedicinecompany.com) who can sell the drug for much less than other large U.S. based pharmacies says they still have a good supply of Tamiflu available. While some other pharmacies are having problems getting the medication.

The probability that the virus will create a pandemic is uncertain. But many people have decided to try to minimize their risk by asking their Doctors’ about the anti-viral medication Tamilflu. Many Doctors have joined in recommending the vaccine for their patients. CanadaMedicineCompany.com will work with you to make sure you get the supply you need.

Tamiflu has been shown to reduce the effects of the bird flu virus if taken within 48 hrs of flu symptoms.

About Tamiflu:

TAMIFLU (TAM-ih-flew) is a medicine to treat flu (infection caused by influenza virus). It belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading inside your body. TAMIFLU treats flu at its source by attacking the virus that causes the flu, rather than simply masking symptoms. Each TAMIFLU capsule (grey/light yellow) contains 75 mg of active drug and should be taken by mouth.

Pharmacies around the world are in very short supply of Tamiflu due to the threat of Avian (Bird) Flu virus and other influenza outbreaks all over the world. If you need a supply of Tamiflu, now is the last chance to get it for a while as the U.S. Government has taken possession of the majority of Tamiflu from all of the drug wholesalers throughout the country.

BuyCheapTamiflu.com has just secured a small supply of Tamiflu from Canada. Orders will be shipped in the order they are received and will begin to ship shortly. Our supplies of Tamiflu are very limited and will only be shipped to US customers.

Tamiflu 75mg is available to purchase online without the need for a prior prescription, our doctors will review your online medical questionnaire and issue you a prescription if you qualify. Tamiflu is available in quantities of 10 or 20 capsules.

(PRWEB) January 1, 2006

FDA commented on the approval of Tamiflu for kids aged between 1 to 12 years who have had close contact with a flu-infected person.

FDA comments, “Patients should stop taking Tamiflu and contact their doctors if they develop a severe rash or allergic symptoms and Tamiflu is not a substitute for the flu vaccine”

FDA has approved the Tamiflu medicine for children who are between 1 to 12 year old (more than 1 year). Tamiflu is the medicine which is used to treat influenza, flu. Flu is not the same as a common cold, it could be severe and even fatal for young, old, and those with chronic medical conditions are at greatest risk.

Kids have been shown to be less likely to catch the flu from a household member if they take Tamiflu for flu prevention, says the FDA.

The FDA cites a study of more than 1,100 people including 222 children aged 1 to 12 years. Participants living with someone diagnosed with seasonal flu were split into two groups. One group took Tamiflu once daily for 10 days. The others only got Tamiflu if they became ill.

FDA commented that the most common side effects were nausea, vomiting, headache and fatigue when the Tamiflu was taken to treat or prevent the flu. Vomiting was reported more often in people taking Tamiflu twice daily to treat flu than in those taking the drug once daily. In one study, vomiting was more common among children than adults, probably due to the dose used

FDA has already ordered to Tamiflu’s maker, Roche Pharmaceuticals, to provide additional post-marketing study data to support the drug’s long-term safety and label to carry warnings about serious skin/hypersensitivity reactions.

The CDC strictly recommends these steps to prevent the flu’s spread: Avoid close contact with people who are sick; stay home when you are sick; cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough; clean your hands frequently; and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth (in case your hands have picked up germs from a contaminated object, such as a phone or doorknob used by someone with the flu).

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) May 13, 2009

Online pharmacy AccessRx.com has Tamiflu in stock for consumers who do not yet have the effective Swine Flu treatment on hand.

Although a prior prescription is not required, patients must provide their health information and medical history before a U.S.-licensed doctor considers writing the prescription. Patients may also call 1-800-467-0297. Patients should not take Tamiflu until flu symptoms are present.

AccessRx.com has experienced a large spike in order requests since April 27.

“Many consumers are choosing to order Tamiflu and keep it nearby just in case a family member comes down with the Swine Flu virus,” said Rich Bernstein, marketing director for AccessRx.com. “Consumers should also be aware that Tamiflu is an effective treatment for most flu strains.”

Tamiflu (http://www.accessrx.com/tamiflu.htm), one of just two effective Swine Flu prescription treatment options provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is available online at http://www.accessrx.com.

Tamiflu is an oral medication that can be obtained before the onset of Swine Flu as a course of treatment. Doctors generally recommend that Tamiflu not be used before the onset of the flu. Rather, it should be taken within 48 hours of the first sign of flu symptoms.

Typical flu shots have been rendered ineffective as a treatment for Swine Flu.

Tamiflu, a brand name, is also referred to as oseltamivir, the name of the drug. The CDC states on its website that Tamiflu is effective for the treatment of Swine Flu symptoms that can include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

AccessRx.com has served more than 250,000 satisfied customers over the course of 10 years. Based in the U.S., the online pharmacy provides only FDA-approved, brand-name medications that can be shipped the same day if the order is processed before 4 p.m. EST.

“We are here for the consumer who would like to have peace of mind,” said Bernstein, who added that only one package of Tamiflu can be ordered per customer per flu season, due to demand. “Although much of the buzz surrounding Swine Flu has subsided, there is still a measurable threat in many states. And many sources say the Swine Flu could reemerge this fall or winter during the next flu season.”

San Francisco (PRWEB) December 7, 2009

Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today that it has begun shipping additional quantities of Tamiflu® (oseltamivir phosphate) oral suspension (liquid). The added supplies of Tamiflu will begin arriving in pharmacies nationwide and will continue to roll out to wholesale and retail pharmacies during the next several weeks. These shipments add to the millions of treatment courses of the adult-sized capsules already available nationwide and significant quantities of smaller, lower dose capsules shipped in November. Together, the formulations provide various dispensing options for treating children with influenza.

Tamiflu is available in 75 mg capsules for adults, 30 mg and 45 mg capsules for children or oral suspension (liquid) for children or people who have difficulty swallowing capsules. Roche continues to make all forms of Tamiflu, and increasing quantities of Tamiflu oral suspension will become available over the next several weeks through the beginning of next year. The small, low-dose capsules may be easier for children to swallow or may be opened and mixed with sweetened liquids, such as regular or sugar-free chocolate syrup, by parents or caregivers. Also, pharmacies can convert the adult (75 mg) size capsules into a liquid for children if neither the liquid nor small capsule forms of Tamiflu are in stock.

“As influenza continues to be widespread throughout the U.S. and the winter flu season nears, we remain committed to making sure there is enough Tamiflu to meet the needs of both adults and children,” said Alexander Hardy, vice president, Anti-Infectives, Genentech, a member of the Roche Group. “We are hopeful that news of these shipments will provide added reassurance to parents that there are Tamiflu options available for their children when they need it.”

Tamiflu attacks the flu virus at its source, preventing it from replicating in the body. Recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on use of antivirals, such as Tamiflu, in management of seasonal and pandemic H1N1 influenza are available at http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/recommendations.htm.

Tamiflu Manufacturing Capacity

Roche has invested significantly to increase its global manufacturing capacity to meet Tamiflu demand during pandemic preparedness and response. The expanded global manufacturing network, which includes 19 partners in 10 countries on three continents, has enabled Roche to boost Tamiflu production 15-fold since 2004. As a result, Roche has the ability to produce 400 million treatment courses annually, roughly 33 million courses per month if required. At the request of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Roche established the capacity to produce 80 million treatment courses from start to finish in the U.S. each year. Roche continues to work with the U.S. government to provide for the Strategic National Stockpile of antivirals for pandemic preparedness and response.

Worldwide Tamiflu Access

To facilitate availability of Tamiflu on every major continent, Roche has granted four sub-licenses to generic manufacturers for production in China, India and Africa. Roche has donated a total of 10.75 million Tamiflu treatment courses to the World Health Organization (WHO) and offered substantially discounted pandemic pricing to all governments.

About Tamiflu

Tamiflu, co-developed by Gilead Sciences, Inc., based in Foster City, CA, is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated influenza caused by viruses types A and B in patients one year and older who have had flu symptoms for no more than two days. Tamiflu is also indicated for the prevention of influenza in patients one year and older. Tamiflu is not a substitute for annual early vaccination as recommended by the CDC. Prescribers should consider available information on influenza drug susceptibility patterns and treatment effects when deciding whether to use Tamiflu.

Tamiflu Safety Information

There is no evidence for efficacy against any illness caused by agents other than influenza types A and B.

Treatment efficacy in subjects with chronic cardiac and/or respiratory disease has not been established. No difference in the incidence of complications was observed between the treatment and placebo groups in this population.

No information is available regarding treatment of influenza in patients at imminent risk of requiring hospitalization.

Efficacy of Tamiflu has not been established in immunocompromised patients.

Safety and efficacy of repeated treatment or prophylaxis courses have not been studied.

Influenza can be associated with a variety of neurologic and behavioral symptoms, which can include events such as hallucinations, delirium and abnormal behavior, in some cases resulting in fatal outcomes. These events may occur in the setting of encephalitis or encephalopathy but can occur without obvious severe disease. There have been postmarketing reports (mostly from Japan) of delirium and abnormal behavior leading to injury, and in some cases resulting in fatal outcomes, in patients with influenza who were receiving Tamiflu. Because these events were reported voluntarily during clinical practice, estimates of frequency cannot be made, but they appear to be uncommon based on Tamiflu usage data. These events were reported primarily among pediatric patients and often had an abrupt onset and rapid resolution. The contribution of Tamiflu to these events has not been established. Patients with influenza should be closely monitored for signs of abnormal behavior. If neuropsychiatric symptoms occur, the risks and benefits of continuing treatment should be evaluated for each patient.

In postmarketing experience, rare cases of anaphylaxis and serious skin reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and erythema multiforme, have been reported with Tamiflu.

The most common adverse events reported in >1% of patients treated with Tamiflu and more commonly than in patients treated with placebo are:

Treatment of adult and pediatric patients: nausea, vomiting
Prophylaxis of adult and pediatric patients: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
Vaccination is considered the first line of defense against influenza.

Tamiflu is available for the treatment of influenza in more than 80 countries worldwide. Prescribing information for Tamiflu is available at http://www.gene.com.

(PRWEB) November 5, 2005

Many countries like the USA are stockpiling tamiflu in preparation for a bird flu pandemic. Members of the public are buying up tamiflu for their own personal bird flu protection.

But Cavanagh says until the bird flu mutates to a human to human virus we can’t be certain that tamiflu will be effective against the bird flu virus. And the latest signs are not good…

In an unsettling development for health authorities tamilflu resistant strains of the bird flu are appearing. A vietnamese girl diagnosed with bird flu with a tamiflu resistant strain of bird flu. Fortunately she survived after being treated with Relenza – another antiviral drug.

In China the bird flu strain H5N1 is showing around 70% resistance to adamantane drugs like Tamiflu.

William Chui from the Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong said viral resistance to tamiflu was growing in Japan where doctors commonly prescribe the drug for influenza.

It’s also important to note that Tamiflu and other anti viral drugs don’t stop the bird flu from entering your body – they fight the virus once it is already inside your body.

Tamiflu works by stopping the virus from bursting out of infected cells in your body. It does this by inhibiting an enzyme called neuraminidase on the surface of the virus cells.

This can help stop viruses like the bird flu infecting other cells in your body and also possibly reduce the chance that you’ll infect other people.

To be effective you need to take tamiflu within 48 hours of becoming ill.

But if a bird flu strain is resistant to the drug then tamiflu may not be the answer to a bird flu pandemic. Cavanagh says it pays to be prepared and the first preparation is paying attention to personal hygiene.

He says around 90% of respiratory viruses like the bird flu, the common cold and influenza that enter our bodies get there when we touch the mucous membranes of our eyes and nose with our fingernails.

So hand washing really is the first line of defense against a bird flu pandemic – not tamiflu. But Cavanagh warns that washing your hands is more complex than it might seem on the surface.

He says you need to use the right kinds of soap and if you can’t use soap there’s only one alternative that’s proven by the USA Centers Of Disease Control to be effective and it’s NOT an antibacterial solution.

Cavanagh is giving away a free report How To Prevent Bird Flu with more information on how to use hand washing and other simple hygiene measures to protect yourself against the bird flu, SARS, the common cold, influenza and more at http://www.howtopreventbirdflu.com

(PRWEB) April 30, 2009

Sales of the anti-viral drug Tamiflu (oseltamivir) have risen dramatically since the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert for swine flu to Level 4 Monday, according to 77 Canada Pharmacy.

The World Health Organization continues to issue daily updates, including the news that over 64 laboratory-confirmed cases of swine flu have been found in the US. The WHO’s warning list of symptoms includes fever, sore throat, muscle and joint pain and shortness of breath.

Amid concerns about passage of the virus, flu sufferers are seeking out the anti-viral drug Tamiflu for its use in the treatment of influenza in patients, and use for prevention of passage of influenza strains among family members. As ever, doctors advise that keeping your hands clean is the first and best preventative measure against all influenza strains, but availability of the suddenly popular medication on drug store shelves is scarce. People are turning to online pharmacies like 77 Canada Pharmacy to buy Tamiflu.

77 Canada Pharmacy is a provider of authentic Roche manufactured Tamiflu that is available by prescription as a preventative measure against the spread of influenza as well as Swine Flu.

Van Nuys, CA (Vocus) March 27, 2009

The flu is an infection caused by the influenza virus that is easily caught upon contact with the virus. The flu symptoms can range from mild to harsh and in some cases can be fatal. The best prevention of the flu is to get the annual flu vaccine. The flu vaccine is made of dead or weakened versions of the predicted strains of flu for the season, which helps your body to develop antibodies to fight off those particular strains.

Besides the traditional flu vaccine, there is also a product called Tamiflu on the market. Tamiflu is an oral capsule that is designed to fight off the flu once a person is infected with it. It is an antiviral treatment, not to be confused with the flu vaccine. It can minimize the symptoms of the influenza virus and prevent symptoms from becoming worse. It works alongside the flu vaccine, so an annual flu shot should still be received, especially in high risk cases, such as medical workers, children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the infirm.

Tamiflu can be taken by anyone aged one year or older. In the case where a person has already contracted the flu, taking Tamiflu within 48 hours of contraction helps stop the virus from spreading and lessens the severity of the symptoms. When taken before contracting the flu, Tamiflu can prevent the flu altogether. You should work with your healthcare provider to ensure that Tamiflu is an option for you. It cannot be used in place of the flu vaccine, since it only works while it is in your system, but it is a great option for those who have already received the flu vaccine and have still caught, or is in danger of catching, the flu.
