Hollywood, FL (PRWEB) May 6, 2009

As the swine flu facts and statistics becoming increasingly alarming, germ-fighting products such as Purell hand sanitizers, N95 masks and liquid foam soaps and pumps are flying off the shelves.

ReStockIt.com, one of the leading online retailers of cleaning and janitorial supplies, as well as office supplies, electronics, restaurant supplies and tools, said their statistics on Purell sales show an increase of more than 200%, while sales of other germ-fighting products such as liquid foam soap pumps and N95 masks are also seeing a dramatic increase.

“We’re doing everything we can to help consumers get the products they need to help slow the spread of germs,” said Jennifer DiMotta, VP of marketing. “We’ve been working with Gojo, 3M and our other vendors to understand upcoming stock, make our customers aware of backorders, and lowering our prices up to 70% off retail,” she added.

On April 26, the U.S. government declared the swine flu outbreak a public health emergency.

To help slow the spread of swine flu, the Center for Disease Control’s swine flu fact sheet recommends that people stay home if they’re sick, avoid close contact with people who are sick, wash hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze – alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, cover their mouths or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and keep up with health information in their own community.

The CDC also recommends using facemasks if a crowded area cannot be avoided, stating “Facemasks should be considered for use by individuals who enter crowded settings, both to protect their nose and mouth from other people’s coughs and to reduce the wearers’ likelihood of coughing on others; the time spent in crowded settings should be as short as possible.”

Statistics on Purell and other hand sanitizers show that they kill 99% of germs, while the best method to prevent the spread of germs is thoroughly washing and drying hands with bar, liquid or foam hand soap.

ReStockIt.com is has reduced prices on cleaning supplies and liquid and foam hand soaps and pumps up to 70%. Purell is on sale up to 30%-50% off list price, while N95 masks and other medical supplies are up to 30% off list price.

SWINE FLU: FACTS AND MYTHS

There has been a lot of terror among people since the outbreak of swine flu in 2009 as the people are not fully aware about the facts regarding it and are living with fear.

Swine flu is defined as an infection of respiratory tract in pigs caused due to swine influenza virus. It seems to cause severe illness but less mortality killing only 1 to 4% of its victims.
In 2009, Swine flu virus strains which caused swine flu include Influenza C and Influenza A subtypes (H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2 and H2N3).

You should know some facts about this deadly infectious disease to prevent it.
Swine flu was first observed to cause infection in humans during the flu pandemic in 1918, when pigs were infected at the same time as humans.
Before the outbreak of 2009, swine flu became the public health concern in 1979 when 1 soldier died and 11 were hospitalized with symptoms of influenza at New Jersey.
The symptoms of swine flu look like seasonal viral flu. The symptoms are fever, cough, muscle and joint aches, sore throat, extreme tiredness, lack of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea.
Human to human transmission occurs through droplet infection by coming in contact with the infected person.
The U.S centre for disease control and prevention recommends oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and Zanamivir (Relaza) for the treatment of infection.

MYTHS ABOUT SWINE FLU
Some people think that they can catch swine flu from eating pork. But CDS has declared that if pork is properly handled and cooked, it causes no harm as it is the respiratory disease and spreads from person to person.
It is thought that swine flu can be prevented by wearing a facemask but the viruses are much smaller and could easily pass through the mask. N-95 and N-99 masks are thought to be better but they are also not perfect.
Some people fear that H1N1 (Swine flu virus) can combine with H5N1 (Bird flu virus) and result in more severe outcome. Little is known about this and there is no evidence present in this regard.

By knowing the facts and myths about swine flu, you can combat this deadly disease.

Facts for knowing how Swine Flu is passed on

You could recall that learning how is the swine flu transmitted is one surefire method for preventing getting infected by the disease.

No doubt about it, the swine flu pandemic is all you hear on the morning News and what you read in the papers. With swine flu symptoms being highly contagious colleges have been closing in fear of spreading the virus even further.

This makes getting a factual swine flu update on a consistent basis – even daily – basis will help to decrease widespread panic and fear.

All in all, it’s best to be educated on what swine influenza cares to take to remain safe.

By the time you finish reading this article you will find out some important facts about swine flu and what you can do to protect yourself.

To kick off with, your first query could be “What is swine flu anyway?” temporarily it is a respiratory disease that originally showed up in pigs. The strain that is affecting humans is a new strain of the virus dubbed novel H1N1 by the United States government.

Obviously, discovering how is swine flu transmitted means understanding that swine flu typically does not infect humans. Only those who were in constant, direct contact with infected pigs was in peril.

Now this actual type of the virus is airborne and is passed on through person-to-person contact.

And another thing, the swine flu incubation period can last for up to 7 days after you’ve been in contact with an infected person.

The term swine flu gives the idea that the virus can be transmitted by eating pork products however that is not the case. The CDC or Centers For Illness Control and Prevention is and always has counsel that you cook foods at a temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit in order to kill not just the swine flu virus but other bacteria and viruses as well.

Since swine flu is transmitted through human contact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has let the cat out the bag about containment. It states that it is very unlikely to contain the virus, so people around the globe must focus each oz. of effort on defensive methods.

For example, not covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze is a technique to spread germs. So the CDC is telling everybody to cover their mouths with a tissue or cough or sneeze into their arms.

They are also promoting good hygiene by telling everybody to doggedly wash their hands with warm soapy water for around 20 seconds to ensure they kill off all germs.

The CDC is also recommending you go the extra mile and carry with you a type of hand sanitizer to clean common areas such as door knobs, tables, and public restrooms.

Look, revealing just how is the swine flu transmitted is your ticket to optimal health in this time of worldwide crisis. You can agree that prevention is the best policy can’t you?

All The Bird Flu Facts You Need To Know!

By now everyone in the Western world is aware of the disease known as bird flu and all the facts associated with it. Everyone should also know the potential consequences involved with this virus if there was ever an outbreak in their town or city. Therefore in order to stop this from occurring people need to know every single bird flu fact there is available to them. There are surprisingly a lot of avian flu facts available and this article will endeavor to discuss most of them so that if ever the event of an outbreak, you will know what to do.

Bird Flu Fact Number One

The first bird flu fact is one that most people don’t know about and it’s this – the avian flu virus is not deadly to humans. So you’re wondering “so why is it that so many people have died as a result of this virus”. Well it’s not the actual bird flu virus that affects humans, it’s a strand of the virus that bird flu is able to mutate into and it’s called the human influenza virus. Millions of people have died as a result of influenza outbreaks throughout history and this is the main reason why people are so scared of this virus. Fortunately we are now capable of stopping this infection before is causes serious harm or even death by the use of some powerful antiviral drugs that have been made available over the past few decades, however many third world countries don’t have access to these drugs and as a result we hear about more and more casualties from this disease.

Bird Flu Fact Number Two

There is in fact currently no cure for this virus. This however doesn’t mean we aren’t close to one though. Scientists are currently testing a cure to the virus, which they say will be ready in the next five or so years. For now the only way to stop avian flu from affecting humans, is to destroy any poultry stock that has been infected by the virus. Many thousands of chickens have been destroyed over the past few years as a result of outbreaks and this can have a serious effect on third world countries.

Another bird flu fact that people don’t know about is that there is a lot ways to prevent the influenza virus from entering a person’s system. Right now there are things that people can do in case the unlikely event of a bird flu outbreak occurs close to home. There is a lot of equipment on the market that specializes in preventing viruses from entering a persons system. One of the cheapest and most affective pieces of equipment is the bird flu mask and can be found in both online and offline stores.

Swine Flu How Is It Caught? – Very Real Facts You Need To Know

You may recall that learning how is the swine flu transmitted is one certain system for preventing becoming contaminated by the virus.

No doubt about it, the swine flu pandemic is all you hear on the morning news and what you read in the newspapers. Regarding the swine flu symptoms being very contagious schools many schools have shut to try to stop the virus from spreading even more.

This makes sure that you are receiving a factual swine flu update on a regular basis – even daily – basis will help to decrease widespread panic and fear.

All in all, it’s best to be educated on what swine flu precautions to take in order to stay safe.

By the time you finish reading this article you’ll find out some important facts about swine flu and what you can do to protect yourself.

To start off with, your first question may be “What is swine flu anyway?” In short, it’s a respiratory virus that originally showed up in pigs. The strain that is affecting humans is a new strain of the virus dubbed novel H1N1 by the United States government.

Obviously, discovering how is swine flu transmitted means understanding that swine flu normally does not infect humans. Only those who were in constant, direct contact with infected pigs was at risk.

Now this particular strain of the virus is airborne and is passed on through person-to-person contact.

On another point it is now known that the swine flu incubation time can last as long as 7 days after you have been in close proximity to an infected person.

The meaning of swine flu seems to make people believe that the virus can be transmitted by eating pork products however this is not the case.

The CDC or Centers For Bug Control and Prevention is and always has recommend that you cook foods at a temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit in order to destroy not only the swine flu virus but other bacteria and viruses as well.

Since swine flu is transmitted through human contact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has let the cat out the bag about containment. It states that it is virtually impossible to contain the virus, so people around the world must focus every bit of effort on preventative procedures.

For instance, not covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze is a way to spread germs. So the CDC is telling everyone to cover their mouths with a tissue or cough or sneeze into their arms.

They are also promoting good sanitation by telling everyone to consistently wash their hands with warm soapy water for around 20 seconds to ensure they destroy all germs.

The CDC is also recommending you go the extra mile and continue with you a type of hand sanitizer to sanitize common areas such as door knobs, tables, and public restrooms.

Being clever and aware is the ticket to your good health, while we all live through this global crisis, we all know that prevention is better than cure. At the same time do not panic and blow it out of proportion we deal with flu strains every year.

Bird Flu Facts Can Save Lives

Doctors and scientists around the world fear it may well become the next pandemic. People have died and many are concerned it’s just a matter of time before the crafty bird flu manages to spread not only from bird to human but also from human to human.

The scare level is high as scientists race to create a vaccine and reports of deaths slowly rack up. But what is the bird flu and what can be done to prevent its spread, and more importantly, protect people?

The bird flu is a strain of influenza occurs naturally in birds. Much like humans, wild birds all over the world carry viruses in their intestines, but generally don’t become sick from them. Avian influenza, however, is different and can make some birds, including chickens, ducks and turkeys quite sick and can even result in death.

While most bird viruses don’t effect humans, the latest strains have been creating problems in the human world, thus the concerns. Since 1997 there have been 100 confirmed cases of human infection with bird flu viruses.

People can become infected with bird flu through close contact with infected birds and most especially their excretions and secretions. Although the spread of the illness from one person to the next has been reported only rarely, and even then not beyond one additional person, there are many concerns in the scientific and medical communities that this will not continue. Viruses such as the flu are well known for their abilities to mutate and there’s no reason to believe that won’t be the case with this quite deadly strain of flu.

Avian flu symptoms in humans are very much like those of run-of-the-mill flu – with a wide variety found. These can include cough, sore throat, fever, eye infections, respiratory issues and other life-threatening complications.

While it’s believed the medications that can help ease the symptoms of human flu viruses might help in the case of the avian flu, there are concerns the bird virus will become resistant to these drugs, creating a bigger issue. At this time there is no vaccine for the bird flu either.

At this point, it is not believed a person can become infected with the bird flu by eating poultry or eggs. As long as safe cooking practices are followed, there should be little concern. To avoid exposure, make sure chicken and eggs are properly cooked and take care to clean up well following preparation. Washing hands and kitchen surfaces is an absolute must. Sanitary practices are a must in avoiding the bird flu and lots of other viruses and bacterial conditions as well.

Will the avian flu become the next pandemic, striking and perhaps killing thousands and thousands the world over?

Unfortunately, only time will tell. The potential, scientists fear, is absolutely there. The only way at this point for people to protect themselves is to use common sense when handling birds – either domestic or wild. Don’t eat, drink or smoke while handling birds, live or dead. Wash hands thoroughly and use caution while cooking.

As it is with so many other illnesses, the simple act of hand washing frequently and correctly can go a long way toward minimizing exposure.

During the last 13 days, up to May 6, WHO has confirmed that 25 countries are affected by Swine flu and 31 persons have died from Swine flu. WHO data indicates that about 60 000 persons died from TB during the same period. By a rough comparison with the number of news reports found by Google news search, Hans Rosling calculates a News/Death ratio and issue an alert for a media hype on Swine flu and a neglect of tuberculosis.

Facts About Influenza Flu Medications

Influenza, also known as flu is an infectious disease that spreads through upper airways and lungs in mammals. Common symptoms of influenza found are fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness, and fatigue.

The best way to protect against the flu is to get proper medication during each flu season. Relenza is a medical prescription that works effectively for the treatment of seasonal flu. It works by reducing the spread of the influenza virus inside the body.

1. Use Relenza medication same as it is being prescribed for you and never try to use exceeded amounts.

2. This medicine is packed in disk shaped packs containing 4 blisters each placed between a device called Diskhaler so as to inhale the medicine. The device opens and loads a blister of the medicine each time one uses the inhaler but caution has to be taken that the device is not used with a spacer.

3. It is advisable not to use any other medicines in the diskhaler and put the cover back on the device when it is not being used.

4. In order to treat flu infections, use 2 inhalations every 12 hours for a period of 5 days but according to the prescription of a doctor.

5. For preventing flu symptoms, use two inhalations in every 24 hours for a period of 10 to 28 days.

6. If you suffer from chronic respiratory disease such as asthma and you are scheduled to use an inhaled bronchodilator along with relenza, then you should prefer using the bronchodilator before using relenza.

7. You should use this medication for entire length of time prescribed by your doctor and the symptoms may get better before the infection spreads.

8. It should be remembered that relenza should not be taken while a yearly flu shot.

9. It should be stored at a room temperature away from moisture and heat and throw away the diskhaler after the treatment ends.

Important Facts About The Flu

The flu is a respiratory infection, despite the fact that it causes full body pain, digestive upsets, and headaches. The flu can sweep through entire communities in a matter of days, moving through schools, work places, and shopping centers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 5 to 20 percent of Americans are infected with the flu during each flu season, typically from November to March. Children are two to three times more likely than adults to become ill.

The CDC estimates that 200,000 people are hospitalized each year and about 36,000 people die from the flu and its complication.

The danger of the flu is that it spreads to epidemic proportions within days, and it mutates, making it difficult to prevent. Each strain of flu reacts differently in the body, making it impossible to predict how the next epidemic will hit society.

The government is now encouraging people to cough into their upper arm, or sleeve, if they do not have a tissue. They should also wipe their hands after they cough. This prevents the spread of the disease between people working in close proximity of each other.

Hand washing needs to be done with a soap based, or alcohol based hand cleaner. The new bacterial cleaners may not work unless they are alcohol based.

The elderly, newborn babies, and people with certain chronic illnesses, however, the flu and its complications can be life-threatening. The danger caused by an out-break dependsd on the virus strain.

Flu is caused by a variety of influenza viruses. Researchers identified the first strains in the 1930s. They classify influenza viruses into types A, B, and C.

• Type A is the most common and causes the serious epidemics.
• Type B outbreaks can cause epidemics, but the symptoms are milder than those in type A.
• Type C viruses, has never been connected with an epidemic.

There is no cure for the flu. The only plan of action is plenty of bed rest, drinking fluids, and taking medications that alleviate the symptoms.

This is followed by careful attention to symptoms. The flu can turn into a bacterial infection, resulting in pneumonia, within hours. It is important to remember that complications can appear after the patient starts to feel better.

Complications include a high fever, shaking, chills, chest pains, and may include vomiting and diarrhea. A doctor should be consulted if coughing produces a yellow-green mucus, especially if it is expectorated from the body. This means, that it is coughed hard from the body with force, sending it several feet away – if the patient did not have a tissue.

It is important to remember that influenza A virus is resistant to Rimantadine and amantadine. The CDC recommends that you not take these medicines to treat the flu. Avoid giving aspirin to children and adolescents with the flu, and do not take antibiotics.

IF a pandemic breaks out, visit http://www.pandemicflu.gov/ to learn the news, and learn what you can do to protect yourself and your family. This site tracks the all forms of the flu, and has tutorials to help people protect themselves in case of a flu pandemic.

Swine Flu Facts

Everyone by now has probably seen the news stories and heard of the fatalities caused by Swine flu.

It appears that we now face a swine flu pandemic, that means that outbreaks are being seen across the world.

But what exactly is and how can we protect ourselves.

Swine flu is a form of influenza that started in pigs but can be caught by, and spread among, people.

The current outbreak, human infection with swine influenza A (H1N1) viruses has been confirmed in the US, Canada, the UK, and other countries.

Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses. Outbreaks of swine flu happen often in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, though infections do occasionally happen. Recently, most human cases of swine influenza have been in people who were in close contact with pigs, such as farmers. In the current outbreak the virus has been spread by person-to-person contact.

This has caused concern that the outbreak could become a pandemic flu - a global outbreak of flu that spreads quickly because it is a new type of virus that few of us have any resistance to.

The normal type of flu ,usually called seasonal flu caused by an existing flu virus, is a common infection in the that usually occurs during the winter. For most people, it is an unpleasant but not life-threatening infection. People who are more at risk from it, such as older people or those weakened by illness can be given a flu vaccination.

The single most effective way to stop or slow the spread of diseases such as swine flu is to prevent the spread of germs. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze this is advice that has been given for many years by is still a very effective way to help you avoid spreading or contracting swine flu, also remember if you or a family member are ill or have the swine flu symptoms it

Is much better to stay at home away from work or school and thus reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Its also worth noting that swine flu cannot be caught by eating pork or other pig related foodstuffs.

There is also no need for panic we do have effective treatments antiviral drugs are effective against swine flu if you are suffering flu symptoms visit your doctor or pharmacist who will be able to prescribe the correct medication.

Those most at risk are young children older people and those with underlying medical conditions.

Remember wash your hands regularly with soap and water cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze and stay away from work or school if you have flu symptoms and always seek professional medical advice.

The Facts About Colloidal Silver and Swine Flu

Panic is spreading all over the World over the outbreak of Swine Flu. Separate to the Swine Flu, Advanced Colloidal Silver solution has grown rapidly in popularlity over the last few years due to its renowned ability as a broad spectrum antiviral agent. It is natural then that many people are asking if the advanced colloidal silver will be effective against the Swine Flu. Well here are the facts so far.

The advanced colloidal silver was designed for the treating and preventing of both forms of viruses (viral DNA polymerase and reverse transcriptase). It is not necessary to understand the differences, suffice to say that the advanced colloidal silver was designed to cover a broad spectrum rather than being specific to any one type of virus. Studies have found the advanced colloidal silver to be both safe and effective against both of these types of virus.

It should be emphasised though that the advanced colloidal silver has not been tested yet against the new strain of Influenza A virus causing the Swine Flu. This virus has been named Influenza A (H1N1). Having said that it has been tested against other viruses within the same classification and has produced brilliant results. The Influenza (H5N1) virus was prevented by taking the liquid colloidal silver orally two times a day disinfecting the hands with the gel keeping them sanitized for up to 4 hours.

The results of the study says, “Especially of interest was the observation that 60% of the infected mice treated with this compound survived compared to the 30% in the placebo-treated controls”. It goes on to state, “this effect is strongly suggestive a disease-inhibitory effect may have occurred”.

Test tube trials against other Influenza strains, at just 10 parts per million demonstrated that the colloidal silver killed or neutralized 96-98% of Influenza A (H3-N2) (Avian Flu) and Influenza A (H1-N1) (Beijing Flu) in only 2 hours. There were no surviving viruses at all after 12 hours. Against Influenza A (H5-N1) (Vietnam Hybrid Avian Flu), the virus was no longer detectable after 6 hours.

Keith Moeller is the Managing Director of the company that manufactures the advanced colloidal silver. He says, “We realize that these study findings are just a preliminary step in showing the effectivity of the product as a daily supplement to improve health. But, given the fact that there is no other product that has been proven both safe for daily usage, and even moderately effective against H5-N1 Bird Flu, we think the study is very important”.

Many brands of colloidal silver from many manufacturers are available today, but the results above are only available Keith Moller’s company. The reason I call it “advanced” colloidal silver, is because it was patented in 2006, whereas all other versions of colloidal silver are made to a much earlier patent issued in 1924. Although some of these colloidal silvers may provide excellent protection as well, they were not involved in the above mentioned trials, so I am unable to comment on them.
