Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) October 5, 2005

Health organizations around the world are bracing for a possible epidemic that could cost many more lives than last year’s Asian Tsunami and last month’s U.S. hurricanes combined. According to David Nabarro of the U.N. and World Health Organization, a new bird flu epidemic could kill between 5 and 150 million people.

Bird flu, or avian flu, is an influenza virus strain that typically infects birds – including wild birds like ducks and domestic birds like chickens.

There are many forms of bird flu, and most are relatively harmless, producing mild symptoms or even no symptoms. However, several strains of bird flu produce a highly contagious disease that kills quickly and could lead to a massive bird flu epidemic. These dangerous viruses are known as “highly pathogenic avian influenza.” One such bird flu virus is currently spreading among chickens in Asian countries. In recent years it was discovered that the bird flu virus can infect people who have close contact with live birds. It is then possible for the virus to spread from human to human.

Symptoms of bird flu (avian flu) in humans include:

Conjunctivitis

Cough

Fever

Muscle aches

Sore throat

(Severe cases) Breathing problem and pneumonia

Bird flu can be fatal.

How dangerous is bird flu?

There have been a number of small outbreaks of bird flu since 1997, and people who get it appear to have a high mortality rate.

1997 Hong Kong – 18 people were infected and 6 people died. There were two cases and one death in Hong Kong in 2003. As many as 10 deaths have been linked to an outbreak in a number of Asian countries last year. A large scale outbreak, however, could cause millions of deaths around the world.

How can bird flu be treated?

Anyone with bird flu symptoms should see a health care professional immediately. The bird flu virus currently infecting birds in Asia that has caused human illness and death appears to be resistant to Tamiflu, according to officials at Queen Mary Hospital in Australia. Tamiflu is the most common drug used to treat flu in humans.

There currently is no vaccine to protect humans against the strain of bird flu virus that’s been detected in Asia. However, research studies to test a bird flu vaccine to protect humans began in April 2005.

Consumers who are concerned about the government’s ability to protect them from the predicted influenza pandemic will find important tips for personal safety in “How to Beat the Bird Flu” by holistic health author Mike Adams. The recently released second edition of this popular consumer guide includes a section dedicated to disaster preparedness and what to expect if avian influenza does become a human pandemic. It lists specific supplies that consumers need, provides natural flu remedies, and explains what to do if basic services such as power and water aren’t available. The guide is available as a soft cover book or electronic download at http://truthpublishing.com/beatthebirdflu.html.

“In addition to explaining how to prepare for a serious pandemic of the bird flu, this book also lists natural remedies that boost immunity to the flu, as well as reducing the length and severity of symptoms,” said Adams. “I’ve included a list of 12 powerful herbs that people should have in their homes to be prepared for an influenza outbreak, and provide information about lifestyle factors that can impact your flu susceptibility.”

In the second edition of “How to Beat the Bird Flu” consumers will discover:

Ballwin, MO (PRWEB) May 10, 2006

The United States Homeland Security Council in early May 2006 released a 233 page report called the Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Implementation Plan. This report fails to mention any role for alternative medicine, although research shows that many substances could help people improve the functioning of their immune systems.

The United States government recently announced the awarding of contracts totally over $ 1 billion to five different companies to develop a bird flu vaccine. However, there’s no indication that it plans to spend money on Vitamin C, selenium or curcumin.

“It’s ridiculous,” says Richard Stooker, author of How to Protect Yourself and Your Family From Bird Flu. “I’m in favor of developing useful vaccines and improving the technology. But they say it’ll be at least six months after the beginning of a bird flu pandemic before they’ll have enough vaccine for all Americans. Why not spend some money on what could help everybody right now? It’s not as though mass quantities of Vitamin C would be anywhere near as expensive as Tamiflu.”

Vitamin C fights all infections by giving up its own electrons to nullify free radicals. It would therefore directly protect us from the effects of a bird flu infection. It would take massive quantities of Vitamin C to defeat bird flu, but medical professionals could easily give patients injections of Vitamin C.

Selenium is a powerful trace element that increases NK cell activity, is necessary for the production of the antioxidant glutathione, increases the T-cells, improves thymus gland functioning and stimulates phagocytes to destroy infections.

Curcumin acts as a natural protease inhibitor, which means it blocks viruses such as bird flu from entering our cells.

“All of these substances could be manufactured and distributed to everybody around the world at a small fraction of what they’re spending on Tamiflu,” says Richard Stooker, who’s also written many online articles about protecting your health against bird flu.

Richard Stooker researched the bird flu virus A/H5N1 and created a start to finish proprietary 7 Perimeter Immune Defense System that explains how to defeat bird flu at every stage. He also provides a list of the Super Immunity 7 herbs and supplements.

LAKEWOOD, NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 19, 2005

Most infectious-disease experts believe that the world stands on the verge of a bird flu pandemic. In fact, according to Shigeru Omi, regional director of the World Health Organization, “The world is now in the gravest possible danger of a pandemic.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and many other nations and organizations are sounding the alarm. President Bush has just requested $ 7.1 billion to finance the war against bird flu, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has just released its long awaited HHS Pandemic Influenza Plan.

The concern is that the bird flu virus will mutate, allowing easy human-to-human transmission—which would result in a pandemic. The bird flu virus has recently been shown to be similar to the virus that caused the worst pandemic ever recorded, the so-called Spanish Flu of 1918-19, which killed upwards of 100 million people—at a time when the global population was less than one-third of what it is today.

There is a great deal of talk about planning at all levels of government, and there is a focus on the development of a vaccine, and the manufacture and stockpiling of antiviral drugs. However, all this planning doesn’t extend down to the level of what individuals are supposed to do to prepare for this potentially devastating bird flu pandemic.

To address this need, The Frank Group is offering an interactive teleseminar with Dr. Bradford Frank, an expert on bird flu. The teleseminar will include an overview of the coming bird-flu pandemic, what individuals can do to prepare for it, and an extensive question and answer period.

This unique teleseminar on bird flu will be held on Monday, November 28th, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. There is no charge for participating and everyone is invited to attend. Interested individuals can sign up through the web site listed in the contact information.

Dr. Frank is President of The Frank Group, a business contingency planning consulting firm. He has expertise in the areas of: business contingency planning, emerging infectious diseases, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), avian influenza (“bird flu”), weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, epidemiology, and various public health issues.

He is the author of numerous scientific articles and several books including, Terror Unleashed: The Coming Bird Flu, Oil, Terrorist, and Financial Crises (January 2006), and Bird Flu: Expert Advice to Help You and Your Family Stay Safe (January 2006).

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) May 10, 2006

Based on discussions with experts in the field, Laurie Grace of Bird Flu Beacon has drawn up guidelines for how to prepare in the event of a human outbreak of bird flu, including business continuity planning for pandemic flu.

Pandemic bird flu is a growing concern among the American public. Although H5N1 avian influenza has not yet arrived on American shores, nor has it mutated into a form which can be readily passed from person to person, experts tell us it is only a matter of time before this becomes the case.

Recently, the ABC television network aired the program, Fatal Contact: Bird Flu In America, which brought the issue before the American public. Drawn as a “plausible worst-case scenario,” Fatal Contact leaves many questions unanswered, particularly with regard to what steps must be taken to minimize the impact upon the American way of life.

In her article entitled, “How To Prepare In The Event Of A Human Outbreak Of Bird Flu” Ms. Grace discusses the likelihood of various scenarios as well as the steps necessary to prepare adequately for those contingencies. She alerts people to the need to plan for basics such as food, water, fuel, medications and cash; preparation which would be a good idea in ANY emergency.

http://www.birdflubeacon.com/HowToPrepareInTheEventOfAHumanOutbreakOfBirdFlu.htm

In a companion article entitled, “Business Continuity Plan For Pandemic Flu” Ms. Grace goes even further to warn businesses of the need for business continuity planning and outlines specifics for avoiding liability and developing strategies for high absenteeism and supply-chain disruption.

http://www.birdflubeacon.com/HowToPrepareInTheEventOfAHumanOutbreakOfBirdFlu.htm

Ms Grace points out that even the relatively small SARS outbreak had a large economic impact, and that pandemic flu would likely have much greater consequences. The workforce could be reduced by as much as 30-40% due to illness and commerce would likely experience slowdowns and halts.

For these and other reasons, Ms. Grace points up the need for businesses to proactively address the following issues:

1. Updating a Business Continuity Plan for bird flu.

2. How to remain sustainable with at a 30-40% absenteeism.

3. Planning for interruption of essential services.

4. Develop alternative supply chains.

5. Educating employees regarding bird flu.

6. Maintaining a healthy work environment.

7. Review and update of all sick leave, & medical policies.

8. Legal review of all “force majeure” liabilities.

9. Designing structures for internet-based “telecommuting.”

10. Security plan and personnel in place for panic.

11. Take necessary precautions to protect against liability.

12. Developing a communications plan for how to communicate with your employees, your customers and your shareholders in order that you might provide guidance and leadership to them, as well as your community as a whole.

Ms. Grace commented, “We have only ourselves to blame if we do not each prepare with haste and due diligence. You will want to know that you have done all you can to protect your employees, your customers, your shareholders, and most importantly yourself and your families and the communities you live in.”

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 13, 2005

”Ma Bailey” (a.k.a Lorilyn Bailey) says the government isn’t communicating well enough about how to prepare for a possible bird flu pandemic. So she decided to do something about it.

The result is “Straight Talk About Bird Flu Preparation,” a 112-slide presentation that is hosted on her site, http://www.BirdFluPreparation.com. The URL of the slide presentation is: http://www.birdflupreparation.com/presentation.html

Bailey, mother of two, grandmother of one, says she was tired of listening to government advice to “start preparing for the bird flu” and finding little information to describe exactly what that meant.

So she read the government sites, made her own assumptions, and created a slide presentation. “The presentation presents the most vital information from the government sites as well as information from scientific and news sources,” she says.

The result, she says, is an easy-to-read presentation that she believes “everyone on Planet Earth” needs to read, because the entire planet is vulnerable if the virus mutates, as many scientists predict it will.

Bailey’s intent, she says, is not to alarm people but to make sure they read and understand what the government is trying to tell them. “No one these days has time to read government documents, and government documents often leave much to be desired. My slide presentation makes a difficult pill easier to swallow.”

“Ma Bailey” says that we have much to learn from the 1918 bird flu epidemic. “There are many similarities. As in 1918, the U.S. is involved in an expensive war; the government isn’t spending enough on health care; there is a large immigrant population that may not get the information it needs; and everyone will most likely resist necessary quarantines. In 1918, there were no drugs or vaccine, and if the pandemic strikes the U.S. in the next few years, manufacturers will not be able to provide enough drugs or vaccine for everyone.”

Bailey has a background in writing and instructional technology and felt she could put her skills to use helping out the U.S. government when they needed it.

Stanton, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2006

Avian Flu Talk recently launched a very popular H5N1 bird flu discussion forum that has generated a lot of excitement among the general public. People are joining this new forum in waves from all around the world as it has now surpassed 500 members in just over 90 days since its inception.

Because of the growing threat of a Superflu pandemic, Avian Flu Talk has recently added several new discussion forums on their site that are aimed specifically at providing worldwide communications in the event of an H5N1 pandemic.

“These new forums allow a way for countries all around the world to collectively work together in preparing for the immanent pandemic” said Ryan Evans, founder of the website. “The forum will provide an invaluable communication structure for the entire world in the event of a crisis, said Evans. “It will help people to coordinate plans and share information among other people that reside within their own country, which is very unique”.

In additional to launching the recent international communication forums, the site also created a pre-designated forum for the members located within the United States.

“This new forum allows intrastate communication among each individual state”, said Evans. People are already posting informative helpful resources in their respective state forums to coordinate pandemic preparedness efforts. These new forums are very useful for connecting people locally”.

This website’s motto of people-helping-people has added a comforting appeal to the new site, which is attracting people from all over the world.

“We believe in providing a caring type of atmosphere on the forum, said Evans. We understand that new visitors to the site may be a little nervous of the current situation so we make every effort possible to comfort them. If the new visitors take their time and review the information on this site, they will have no problem adequately preparing”.

The website is also a great source for receiving the latest bird flu news and developments as members from all around the world post news releases in a designated news forum.

For all those that are interested in immediate preparation for the ensuing H5N1 bird flu pandemic, we would encourage you to visit this site located at: http://www.AvianFluTalk.com.

[PRWEB] May 2, 2006 — “Russia will be ready with a vaccine within a month,” Mikhail Zurabov, Russian Health Minister announced April 28 after a meeting of the health ministers of the Group of Eight (G8) industrial nations in Moscow. “If a form of bird flu that can be transmitted from human to human develops.”

No exact vaccine for an exact strain of influenza can be developed until that strain actually exists. So far, the bird flu virus A/H5N1 has not produced a strain that is easily contagious person to person.

“The trouble is, within 30 days a highly contagious form of bird flu could spread around the world and kill millions” says Richard Stooker, author of How to Protect Yourself and Your Family From Bird Flu. “And creating a vaccine is not the same as producing and distributing the millions of doses necessary to protect the population of a nation and the world.”

“That currently takes at least 6 months, just for ordinary flu shots.”

According to Zurabov, Russian scientists are working on two potential vaccines. “The vaccines have undergone pre-clinical tests … and I hope they will be completed in three to four months.”

Zurabov also said Russia was accumulating stocks of anti-viral medicines and preparing beds in hospitals for future possible patients.

Richard Stooker researched the bird flu virus A/H5N1 and created a start to finish proprietary 7 Perimeter Immune Defense System that explains how to defeat bird flu at every stage. He also provides a list of the Super Immunity 7 herbs and supplements.

Fullerton, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2007

There has been a lot of discussion lately on the Avian Flu Talk message board regarding reports from national media sources, which are now indicating that the number of bird flu patients is continuing to rise since the avian flu virus re-emerged last month after a near 6 week hiatus. There have been a total of 8 confirmed human deaths in the last 30 days spanning from Egypt to Indonesia.

The most recent reports in Indonesia indicate that the number of suspected cases is still increasing, but the Public Health Ministry has been slow to confirm these reports. The number of confirmed cases in Indonesia over the last two weeks equals approximately 10% of their total cases since 1993.

Vietnam, South Korea and Hong Kong have also experienced a surge in poultry outbreaks over the last month.

The bird flu virus appears to have now become easier to transmit from birds to humans, which has sparked a mass culling campaign in the backyards of Indonesia.

Experts fear that this sudden increase of outbreaks will substantially increase the chances of the bird flu virus evolving into a human flu pandemic.

Ballwin, MO (PRWEB) August 15, 2006

The United Nations World Health Organization WHO confirmed that a 17 year old girl from Jakarta province and a 6 year old boy from West Java province died of the bird flu H5N1 virus.

The two new bird flu deaths raise Indonesia’s total to 44. Therefore, it has surpassed Vietnam, which held the record at 42 bird flu deaths.

Both Indonesian children died last week. The boy was in regular contact with sick and dying chickens. The girl kept pigeons in her home. The boy’s family were initially told he had typhus. By the time the medical professionals figured out it could be bird flu, it was too late to save his life.

“Indonesia is allowing its children to die,” says Richard Stooker, author of How to Protect Yourself and Your Family From Bird Flu. “I understand it’s a poor country. But just a few years ago they were taking out full color, multi-page ads in business magazines bragging about their modern improvements. Vietnam and Cambodia are poorer than Indonesia, yet they’re taking strong proactive steps to control high pathogenic avian influenza in their countries.”

Vietnam has not reported any human cases of bird flu since late 2005, and almost no cases of high pathogenic avian influenza in 2006.

“Indonesia does not seem to realize they’re playing with fire,” says Richard Stooker, who created a start to finish proprietary 7 Perimeter Immune Defense System that explains how to defeat bird flu at every stage.

“They seem to believe that just because bird flu is not right now a big threat compared to tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanos and the many other infectious diseases that kill both chicken and people — that it will stay that way.”

“If they let the problem go on too long, bird flu could kill enough chickens to cause great hunger. And many more people especially children will die from bird flu and from nutritional deficiencies.”
