Ballwin, MO (PRWEB) May 10, 2006

The United States Homeland Security Council in early May 2006 released a 233 page report called the Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Implementation Plan. This report fails to mention any role for alternative medicine, although research shows that many substances could help people improve the functioning of their immune systems.

The United States government recently announced the awarding of contracts totally over $ 1 billion to five different companies to develop a bird flu vaccine. However, there’s no indication that it plans to spend money on Vitamin C, selenium or curcumin.

“It’s ridiculous,” says Richard Stooker, author of How to Protect Yourself and Your Family From Bird Flu. “I’m in favor of developing useful vaccines and improving the technology. But they say it’ll be at least six months after the beginning of a bird flu pandemic before they’ll have enough vaccine for all Americans. Why not spend some money on what could help everybody right now? It’s not as though mass quantities of Vitamin C would be anywhere near as expensive as Tamiflu.”

Vitamin C fights all infections by giving up its own electrons to nullify free radicals. It would therefore directly protect us from the effects of a bird flu infection. It would take massive quantities of Vitamin C to defeat bird flu, but medical professionals could easily give patients injections of Vitamin C.

Selenium is a powerful trace element that increases NK cell activity, is necessary for the production of the antioxidant glutathione, increases the T-cells, improves thymus gland functioning and stimulates phagocytes to destroy infections.

Curcumin acts as a natural protease inhibitor, which means it blocks viruses such as bird flu from entering our cells.

“All of these substances could be manufactured and distributed to everybody around the world at a small fraction of what they’re spending on Tamiflu,” says Richard Stooker, who’s also written many online articles about protecting your health against bird flu.

Richard Stooker researched the bird flu virus A/H5N1 and created a start to finish proprietary 7 Perimeter Immune Defense System that explains how to defeat bird flu at every stage. He also provides a list of the Super Immunity 7 herbs and supplements.

More information on how you can learn How to Protect Yourself and Your Family is available at the author’s website and blog.

Bishop’s Stortford, Herts (PRWEB) May 21, 2009

Displaysense has announced that, with the number of swine flu cases continuing to rise across the UK, retailers and manufacturers are now going to extreme lengths to prevent the spread of the highly contagious illness throughout their customers and staff.

Demand for swine flu protection equipment has gone through the roof over the past few weeks, with Displaysense, a Hertfordshire based shop fittings (http://www.displaysense.co.uk/Retail-Displays-and-Shopfittings?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=swineflu ) provider, reporting that sales of their face masks and antibacterial hand wash have more than trebled and stock of the items is having to be ordered daily to keep up with demand. Not only has the retail display company seen a dramatic increase in sales of their face masks, but the range of searches on the company’s website for swine flu preventive products has gone up ten-fold, overtaking the more popular searches for products such as business card holders (http://www.displaysense.co.uk/Business-Card-Holders?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=swineflu ).

Steve Whittle, marketing manager at Displaysense, commented on the findings by saying, “We have had a big increase in demand for a lot of our products, from small clothing manufacturers purchasing a large quantity of masks to protect their work force, to retail stores purchasing antibacterial wipes and disinfectant hand gel to encourage customer and staff usage as well as keeping work surfaces sterile.”

Not only has the sale of face masks rocketed, but the sale of storage devices related to the virus has also been on the up, with products such as medical display cases (http://www.displaysense.co.uk/Display-Cases-and-Cabinets?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=Swineflu ) and leaflet holders (http://www.displaysense.co.uk/Literature-and-Information-Display?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=swineflu ) seeing an equally as large increase in sales.

“With the economy as it is, the fear of what swine flu can do to a struggling high street workforce and the potential reduction of footfalls of consumers, has many retailers reeling,” continued Steve Whittle. “We are just glad that we can supply such products to help these businesses combat this potential threat.”

The government are tackling the outbreak head on by distributing a leaflet to homes across the country this May, informing people of the symptoms and actions to take to prevent contracting and passing on the illness. Displaysense are also playing their part, by creating a dedicated page on their site that not only provides information on swine flu related products, but also provides links through to the government’s advice website and a health protection agency website.

(PRWEB) November 2, 2005

An innovative new water treatment system could provide the UK’s poultry farmers with an extra line of defence against the spread of avian influenza in the national flock.

The Aqualution system, developed by UK company Forum Bioscience, was originally developed to help producers reduce the incidence of food poisoning bacteria such as Campylobacter and Salmonella. But during regulatory tests required under the EU’s Biocidal Products Directive, the system demonstrated its ability to destroy the avian influenza virus where it’s present in drinking water – believed to be a possible means of transmission between birds.

“The Food Standards Agency (FSA) says Campylobacter is the single biggest cause of food-borne illness in the United Kingdom,” explains Tom Ritchie, business manager with Forum Bioscience, “so Aqualution satisfied the demand from producers for a product which could be used successfully during production.

“But the speed with which avian influenza has moved across Asia and into Europe has forced producers to consider contingency plans for their flocks, should the disease become commonplace among birds in the UK,” he points out.

“Several producers have expressed an interest in installing Aqualution as their extra line of defence. It provides them with an alternative to conventional chemicals such as chlorine or ozone, where the concentrations required can often have a harmful effect on the birds. Such treatments are also unpopular with consumers who, understandably, are becoming more ‘savvy’ about the methods employed to produce their food.

“Aqualution relies on electrolysis to generate ‘activated water’, containing a very small amount of chlorine (3-5ppm) and high concentrations of dissolved oxygen. The combination is terrifically effective against pathogens,” he stresses.

On a typical unit, drinking water will often contain pathogen counts of 100,000/ml. Once Aqualution has been installed, this reduces to 10/ml and often zero.

“Because the water stays ‘active’ up to the point of drinking, the system helps prevent spread of disease between birds,” Mr Ritchie explains. “In addition, we have fogging trials underway to look at the effectiveness of the system for controlling airborne transmissions. If successful, this could then be used inside sheds and control rooms, as well as at farm entrances for disinfecting vehicles.”

Independent testing has shown that the treated water satisfies the British Disinfectant Standard against a range of problem pathogens including Pseudomonas, E.coli and Campylobacter, as well as avian influenza and a number of other viruses.

The system can also boost end profits and animal welfare. “Extensive trial results show that for meat production, a combination of reduced bird mortality, increased growth rates and better food conversion are achieved. In layers and breeders there is also greater egg and chick yield, and litter is drier – easing consumer concerns about ‘hock burn’.”

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 1, 2009

Wireless WipesTM, the only known sanitizer designed specifically to disinfect mobile phones, is one of the best defenses against catching the Swine Flu. Doctors across the country are advising Americans to wash their hands and face frequently and use a sanitizer to ward off this virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Acting Director, Dr. Richard Besser, said, “Hand washing. We say it every day. People will get tired of hearing it because we are always going to say that. Hand washing and use of alcohol hand gels can reduce the spread of viruses. And if people take that step, that can reduce the risk that they’re going to get an infection.”

“The Swine Flu outbreak is just another reminder of how important it is to keep the hands and face clean. Wireless Wipes are high in alcohol and help inhibit the spread of germs and bacteria,” said Scott Silverman, President of Wireless Wipes. “Using the wipes a few times daily is an effective way to reduce exposure to the Swine Flu and other viruses.”

Wireless Wipes are fast-drying, non-streaking and non-corrosive wipes with a pleasant green tea-cucumber scent. Wireless WipesTM comes in 10-count re-sealable pouches which can fit neatly in a purse, shirt or jacket pocket.

H1N1 caused by Influenza A virus is a kind of respiratory communicable disease which is acute and that human beings and pigs all will be suffered from. Why Women all Choose tiffany jewellery ? God Knows! This disease is endemic in pigs, but lead to few deaths of pigs. Humanity has rarely been infected with the virus, but also there has found some cases of human infected with swine influenza, most of them have had directly contact with the diseased pigs. Symptoms of H1N1 are familiar with that of seasonal flu, but very different in severity. You usually have a sudden fever over 38 degrees Celsius, cough, headache, joint pain, stuffy nose, malaise and lack of appetite. Some people infected with the virus will appear runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. It Is Right to Buy links of london charms for Your Sex-Kittens.
H1N1 flu is still sprawling. Babies aged between 0 and 6 years old are incomplete in immune functions with weak resistance. Facing H1N1 plague, children are the first subject to be infected. It is better to prevent as soon as possible facing the outbreak of H1N1 epidemic. H1N1 are commonly circulating in the human beings, causing infection even no symptoms. Health experts have warned, after the outbreak of flu it is difficult to prevent it from spreading, but common senses can help individuals protect themselves. In the process of preventing H1N1, the cognitive ability, self-care ability and resistance of babies are still weak, needing the special care from adults.

Influenza virus spreads mainly through air and contact. Children should avoid making contact with patients who have symptoms of flu, for example, fever, cough and running nose and so on, and who have diseases of respiratory tract, like pneumonia. Parents should not take children to the crowed places without flowing air as far as possible. If you really need to take your babies to these places, you had better to help them wear gauze masks. Avoid physical contact, including shake hands, kissing, and dinging. This could serve to prevent contact with H1N1 pathogenic role.

Pay attention to the hygiene of baby, especially hands, for most children are restless, with hands easy to contact with bacteria. Try to often wash your hands with thimerosal or clean water especially before each meal or sleep. Do not knead your eyes or suck your fingers. Make sure the babies have enough sleep and exercises. Keep the interior room ventilating. Help them to have a good personal healthy habit. Babies, having not get the flu shot, should as soon as possible get it. Although the flue shot can not prevent the H1N1 flu, it can improve baby’s immunity against the flu.

Eat fully cooked food, don’t eat or eat less uncooked or half-cooked shellfish, fish, unclean food. Vegetables and fruits should be cleaned thoroughly, and if conditions permitting, better disinfect or peel it before eating, which can reduce the opportunity of bacteria intrusion into the body. Besides the cleanliness of usual diet, the nutrition of children should also be paid attention to, for the lack of nutrition will reduce the resistant of baby.

Coventry, West Midlands (PRWEB) December 9, 2009

Lloydspharmacy has warned that the number of people protecting themselves against seasonal flu has fallen this year, possibly the result of a misguided belief that the swine flu jab will protect against winter flu.

As of 6th November there had only been a 54% uptake in people aged 65 and over, and only 27% uptake by people aged 55 – 65 to date, of the seasonal flu vaccine (http://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/service/winter-flu-vaccinations/flu-jabs )*. This is a big reduction compared with the 73.5% uptake in 2008 by over the 65s and 73.9% in 2007**.

According to research*** conducted by Lloydspharmacy (http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/ ) almost 40% of people wrongly believe that the swine flu vaccine (http://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/service/Tamiflu/Tamiflu ) will also protect them against seasonal flu. Even more worryingly, more than half (52%) of the over 65s – one of the groups most vulnerable to winter flu – thought they would be protected against both strains if they had had the swine flu vaccination.

People over the age of 65 qualify for a free NHS seasonal flu vaccination as do people with conditions such as diabetes (http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/wps/portal/services/diabetes), asthma, heart disease (http://health.lloydspharmacy.com/sexualhealth/ed/erectiledysfunctionheartdisease.php), lung disease, kidney disease, chronic liver disease, lowered immunity due to disease or treatment (such as steroid medication or cancer treatment) or removal of the spleen, or if they are a resident of a nursing or residential home. Anyone who is the main carer for an elderly or disabled person and whose wellbeing may be put at risk if the carer falls ill, is also eligible for a free vaccination from their GP.

Others who are not eligible for free NHS treatment can still have an online consultation with a doctor and be vaccinated at high street pharmacies for a fee of £5, with Lloydspharmacy offering a seasonal flu vaccination service in 260 of its pharmacies.

Seasonal flu is responsible for the deaths of about 8,000 people in the UK a year and tends to affect the more vulnerable or elderly people. Last week the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control forecast that the swine flu and seasonal flu strains could claim 40,000 lives each across Europe this winter.

The World Health Organisation has urged national governments to put in place plans to vaccinate at least 75 per cent of people most at risk of seasonal flu by 2010**.

“Whilst there is still time for vulnerable people to get themselves protected before late November (when the Winter flu season reaches its peak) we would certainly expect to see a higher uptake by this time of year,” said Clare Kerr, head of clinical services at Lloydspharmacy.

Ann Arbor, MI (Vocus) April 30, 2009

Concerns regarding a potential swine flu pandemic continue to surface internationally. New cases have been reported in at least ten U.S. states and eight countries. This includes a twenty-three month old toddler in Texas who died yesterday, the first reported fatality outside of Mexico.

“With increasing reports of the swine flu, hand washing is more important than ever,” said Cheryl Luptowski, NSF International Public Information Officer. “By teaching children proper hand washing practices, we can make a difference in preventing the spread of the flu and other serious illnesses.”

The influenza virus is often spread when a person comes in contact with something that has been contaminated with germs, such as people’s hands, doorknobs or countertops, and then touches their eyes, nose and mouth before washing their hands. In fact, an NSF International classroom study in 2005 found that commonly shared items, such as drinking fountains, desks and cafeteria trays typically have more germs than any other surface in a school.

“Our first line of defense against all viruses is hand washing,” said Rob Donofrio, Ph.D. Director of NSF’s Microbiology Laboratory. “Proper hand washing is one of the easiest things that we can all do to keep from getting sick and spreading illness, and our classroom study reinforces this.”

In another study conducted by NSF in 2006, 42 percent of teachers surveyed said it is more difficult to get their students to use soap when they wash their hands than it is to get them to do their homework, and 86 percent of teachers say that parents often send a sick child to school since he/she may be unable to stay at home alone.

With youth at risk, NSF’s Scrub Club® (scrubclub.org) provides an effective way for kids to learn the importance of hand washing to protect them against influenza. NSF International, a not-for-profit public health and safety organization, has developed a Web site that teaches children how to properly wash their hands.

About the Scrub Club®

Each of the Scrub Club® Soaper-Heroes represents one of the six steps in the hand washing process – “Hot Shot” and “Chill” combine to make the warm water essential for proper hand washing; “Squeaks” turns into various forms of soap; “Taki” becomes a clock that counts down the required 20 seconds for proper hand washing; “Scruff” reminds kids to clean around their nails; “Tank” turns into a sink to rinse away the germs and “P.T.” transforms into paper towels. Interactive games, including the one that features the evil villain “Influenza Enzo – Stop Fluin’ Around,” teach children how illnesses are spread and how to prevent them.

The American Red Cross and NSF International have collaborated to help educate communities across the nation about the benefits of hand washing to fight germs and prevent illness. The Partnership for Food Safety Education, another Scrub Club® partner that helped launch the Web site, is also helping with this initiative.

Background on Swine Influenza

Swine influenza is a highly-contagious flu infection in pigs. Symptoms include fever, coughing, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says, “Swine flu viruses have been reported to spread from person-to-person, but in the past, this transmission was limited and not sustained beyond three people.” Recently, however, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the pandemic alert level to Phase 5, indicating sustained human-to-human transmission of the virus.

There are no current vaccines that contain the current swine influenza virus, and it is unknown whether or not existing seasonal influenza vaccines could offer protection to at-risk individuals. WHO says it could take five to six months until a vaccine is available.1

For more information about the Scrub Club® contact Greta Houlahan at houlahan(at)nsf.org or 734.913.5723 or visit scrubclub.org. Educational materials for teachers and parents can be downloaded directly from the Scrub Club® Web site.

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

Tamiflu, one of just two effective Swine Flu prescription treatment options provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is available online at http://www.AccessRx.com. No prior prescription is required. However patients must provide their health information and medical history before a U.S.-licensed doctor considers writing the prescription. Patients may also call 1-800-467-0297.

Tamiflu can be obtained before the onset of Swine Flu as a course of treatment at http://www.accessrx.com/tamiflu.htm . However, Tamiflu should not be taken until a patient experiences symptoms of the flu.

Tamiflu, a brand name, is also referred to as oseltamivir, the name of the drug. The CDC states on its website that Tamiflu is effective for the treatment of swine flu symptoms that can include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

AccessRx.com has been a trusted online pharmacy for 10 years. Based in the U.S., it provides only FDA-approved, brand-name medications that can be shipped the same day if the order is processed before 4 p.m. EST.

“Many people are concerned, and we have had a large number of phone calls and inquiries lately about how Tamiflu can help prevent the Swine Flu,” said Rich Bernstein, marketing director for AccessRx.com “Although the strain of Swine Flu in the U.S. does not appear to be causing the dire effects seen in Mexico, many of our customers are choosing to stay on the safe side just in case.”

Of course, Tamiflu is an effective treatment for common flu strains as well.

“We’ve always been conscientious and sensitive to the needs of the people we serve,” Bernstein said. “We provide quality, FDA-approved medications that improve the lives of our customers.”

Plymouth Meeting, PA (Vocus) September 9, 2010

More than 690,000 Americans have already received this season’s flu vaccine from their doctor, according to SDI’s VaccineTrack® data through Sept. 4. VaccineTrack® provides syndicated weekly vaccine usage by physicians based on medical office electronic healthcare reimbursement claims data.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced an unprecedented campaign to combat seasonal flu through a universal vaccination strategy. CDC removed many restrictions and currently supports seasonal influenza vaccination for all persons 6 months of age and older based on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which advises CDC on vaccine issues.

In the 2010/2011 season, vaccine manufacturers are slated to produce more influenza vaccine than ever before. Shipments of influenza vaccine began weeks ahead of most other seasons in anticipation of rapid and wide-ranging vaccine uptake.

“These measures taken by CDC and vaccine manufacturers facilitate public health efforts to make flu vaccines available to all,” said Andrew Kress, CEO of SDI.

SDI tracks vaccine use through a variety of channels, including medical offices. SDI maintains the largest influenza-monitoring program in the United States and has tracked, measured, and forecast the number of people affected by cough, cold, influenza, and other upper respiratory conditions for over 25 years.

Each year in the United States, on average, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized and 36,000 people die from seasonal flu complications. CDC recommends a yearly seasonal flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against seasonal flu.

Which precautions can your company take against the new influenza (H1N1)?

Expected outbreak of the Mexican flue is foreseen the second half of this year (2009).
Several countries started a task force to help companies to be ready. Absenteeism will be much higher than normal and can lead to losses going into the billions.

This article is not a reason to panic, only a call for prevention.

The good news is that the ‘Mexican flue’, now called New influenza (H1N1) in most of the cases isn’t deathly and everyone born before 1957 looks immune for the H1N1 virus.
The less good news is the fact that the average number of days of absenteeism is 7. This can have an influence on your business and the other employees as they have to take over the tasks of the ill colleagues.

The best precautions are personal hygiene.

Wash your hands with soap after visiting the man/ladies room Hand in front of your mouth when you cough and again washing your hands with soap. Is your company ready to let people work from home, or do you have a plan to backup employees caught by the H1N1 virus? Is someone in your company, our you responsible for following up the latest news concerning H1N1. (Checking the internet about 5 minutes is more than enough) When an employee shows some symptoms of the H1N1 virus, let them go home and rest immediately, call a doctor to do a check up at his/her home. This reduces the risk of contamination of other people/employees

These 5 steps can easily promoted by posting posters in your company and to distribute Hand Sanitizers and Antibacterial Soaps.
See also at the end of the article to link to several sources on the internet to follow up the situation.

Conclusion:
The H1N1 virus will have an impact on the businesses when it breaks out., but if you are ready and put some prevention in place, your company will be ready against it.

As we always say: Forwarned, forearmed.
