A good deal of suspected H1N1 patients end up in E.R. Most don’t die. But even if it is not H1N1, people show up, thinking it is. That’s a concern for us here in Canada.
I don’t think anyone is saying that there will be an extraordinary number of deaths (compared to other flus). What they are concerned with is the large number of illnesses that could otherwise be prevented.

Under 4,000 dead from this flu worldwide and most had underlying complications. This is hardly something the system can’t handle.
If you trust the vaccine than get it and you don’t have to worry because you will supposedly be protected. But she makes it very clear that this is just a sinister plot to pump people full of vaccines.

This Sister may have good intentions, and I don’t think what she is saying is false. However, she doesn’t seem to properly understand the implication of a viral propagation in a population that includes weak and edlerly. It doesn’t matter if you and I can fight the infection. What matters is how it is likely to affect the entire population. In that sense her analysis incomplete.
I’m not a big fan of flu shots, but I’ll be getting the vaccine for H1N1.
The problem is that not everyone can afford to isolate themselves for a week, and will thus not. They will continue to propagate the virus, which sets in motion an exponential increase in number of people infected.
The health care system cannot handle such a large number of people at once, creating a risk of death. That is why the government is urging (but not forcing) vaccination.
It is not a conspiracy by the drug industry or government. It is epidemiology and public policy at work.

I don’t trust the Pharmaceutical companies, never will. They block research for cures for diseases because it is more profitable (for them) to treat diseases.

What many people don’t seem to understand is that vaccination is also a matter of civic responsibility. It is not just about protecting oneself. When there are no more viable hosts in a population the virus will die out (or have to mutate).
I just got over the flu, last week, which my doctor said was most likely the H1N1 strain….
I have had the flu a couple other times (I am 39 yrs old), and this most recent one was the LEAST potent of the three….
But a good argument against getting vaccinated for H1N1 is the fact that it is less likely to be lethal than other recent type A and B flu viruses…

The amount of vaccine that bore contamination is really not an issue. That is because influenza virus is self-replicating. So if the initial lot of virus-infected cells used to produce the 72kg of vaccine contained some attenuated vaccine strain influenza and some virulent H5N1, then the 72kg of production material will contain a similar ratio. If a tiny mistake was made at the beginning, it will propagate throughout the process.
